Military Connected Families
Cub Run Elementary School has been designated as a Purple Star School.
Welcome to Cub Run Elementary School, home of the Cubbies!
Our staff, students, and community thank you for your service and hope that your time here in Northern Virginia is meaningful and rewarding.
Cub Run Elementary School was selected by the Military Student Support Process Action Team (MSSPAT) for the 2022-2023 Purple Star Designation Award. We are lucky to have a supportive school and community who work together to support students who have relocated to Centreville due to a family's change in duty station.
Student Ambassador Program:
Fairfax County Public Schools Student Ambassador Programs are school-based student leadership programs that bring together military and civilian peers to support all students' transition to school, helping create an accepting school culture and welcoming environment.
Our Student Ambassadors welcome new students into the school and provide tours of the building while guiding students to their new classrooms. They help to connect new students with their peers, teachers, and opportunities offered at Cub Run or within the surrounding community while also helping them to become familiar with class/school routines, rules, and schedules.
Military Family Group:
Our PTA sponsors a military family group to help military families connect with one another and with their new community at Cub Run. If you are new to the area or would like more information about our PTA military family group, please contact Monique Norwood at [email protected].

Purple Star Designation
The Purple Star designation is awarded to military-friendly schools that have demonstrated their commitment to meeting the needs of military-connected students and their families.
From the Military Child Education Coalition website:
MCEC is the national advocate for Purple Star Schools, a program that supports military-connected children as they relocate to new schools due to a parent’s change in duty station.
Military children move every two to three years. The Purple Star School program is designed to help schools respond to the educational and social-emotional challenges military-connected children face during their transition to a new school and keep them on track to be college, workforce, and life-ready. Military-connected refers to children of service members on active duty, and in the National Guard and Reserves.
